Hartford Behavioral Health

Childrens Services

familyHBH provides intensive home-based services to youth and families referred by Connecticut’s Department of Children and Families, including psychotherapy, psychiatric evaluations & medication to address issues of trauma, substance use & conduct disorders.

Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT)

A family-based outpatient treatment program developed to work with adolescents with drug and behavioral problems. This model works with both the adolescent and the caregiver to identify problem behaviors and encourage positive changes and growth in the family.

Based on a developmental understanding of the youth as an individual, it focuses on issues of self-identity, sexual experimentation and cognitive changes and a deep understanding of family dynamics and relationships within the cultural context in which they live.

MDFT utilizes Structural Family Therapy and Strategic Family Therapy and emphasizes problem solving, principles of change and intervention, assigning tasks or homework and identifying and including support networks for the family.

All referrals for Children’s Services must come from the Hartford Area DCF Office
