Underage Drinking Initiative

A prevention program in partnership with Hartford Communities that Care designed to identify factors contributing to underage drinking in Hartford, funded by the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

The National Center for HealthStatistics reports that “alcohol use contributes to the three leading causes of death among African Americans 12-20 years old: homicide, unintentional injuries (including car crashes) and suicide”.

Lead in part by the youth themselves, this program identifies factors that contribute to underage drinking and implements strategic changes to reduce the behavior and build resilience and reduce risk factors.
